  1. Scholars should report to school in uniform during their in person orientation dates and throughout the school year.  Our uniform policy entails a dashiki, black pants and sneakers (open toe shoes & crocs are prohibited).  Dashikis can be purchased at school for $20 each from 9am - 2pm.
  2. School is closed on Friday, August 30, 2024 and Monday, September 2, 2024 and in observance of Labor Day.  All scholars report to school on Tuesday, September 3rd at 8:30 am.
  3. You will be given access to your scholar’s grades via PowerSchool and assignments via Schoology.  These empowerment tools provide you with realtime access to attendance and academics.  Be sure to check them frequently and consider downloading the apps.  School-wide communication is also made via Schoology posts. Parental Usernames and passwords will be shared via email before school begins. Need support? Submit a request via our Tech Support Form linked here.
  4. If you have a change of contact information (mailing address, email address or phone number), please let the school office know.  These methods of communication are vital to our partnership and the safety of your scholar.
  5. We will provide scholars with access to technology while they are at school.  Each classroom is equipped with a laptop cart.  Your scholar will greatly benefit from you providing them with a device to use at home.
  6. We participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) Program which provides scholars with access to breakfast and lunch at no cost to their families.  Meals will be provided through Whitson’s. Breakfast is served from 7:30 am to 8:20 am daily.  Our cafeteria is also equipped with microwaves that scholars can use to warm up meals.
  7. Cell phones, Smart Watches, I-Pads, Laptops and Headphones are distracting to the educational environment and are therefore not permitted during the school day.  Scholars will receive a Yondr pouch to store their cell phones in and retain them in their possession.  Scholars who do not comply with this requirement will have their phones confiscated and it will be returned to a parent/guardian.  Broken or lost Yondr pouches incur a $25 replacement fee.
  8. Attendance is critical to the success of our scholars.  Scholars should be prompt when reporting to school.  School begins at 8:30 am daily and the day concludes at 3:30 pm for scholars on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  To allow for professional development, scholars are dismissed at 12:30 pm on Wednesdays.  Our seniors are dismissed at 2:39 pm during full days and 12:01 pm on Wednesdays.  If your scholar is going to be absent or late, please send in a written note or email to [email protected].  Notes should be furnished within three days of an absence to be considered for excusal.
  9. Septa Key Cards that were distributed to scholars last year will continue to be operable during the new school year and will be automatically activated. If your scholar lost, damaged or misplaced their cards, or if you are new to key cards, please come to the Main Office during business hours or email Mama Dana at [email protected]. (Read More)
  10. Scholars entering the 9th grade must have a current physical on file along with mandated immunizations. Seniors must provide proof of updated immunizations including the second dose of the meningitis vaccine (MCV4) to avoid being excluded from school.  Questions can be directed towards Mama Nurse Ann at [email protected]
  11. Grades will be updated bi-weekly and can be viewed via PowerSchool which is our official gradebook.  The minimum score that is provided is 50% for any assignment unless a scholar plagiarizes their work.  Academic integrity is paramount so in these instances a zero will be assigned.  Scholars who accumulate more than 10% illegal absences during a marking period/school year will not receive a grade above 76%. Both interim reports and report cards will be disseminated via email.  Please be sure to keep an updated email address on file.  Free Tutoring will be provided on Thursdays from 3:30 pm - 4:15 pm. Credit recovery will be offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer and priced at $250 per course.
  12. Scholars will complete NWEA’s Map Growth assessments in Reading and Math for benchmarking purposes three times during the year.  Results will be shared with families and used to determine if additional interventions are needed to support growth.
  13. Incoming scholars receiving special education services or who have a 504 Plan should forward a copy of the records to [email protected] AND [email protected].
  14. Please be sure to read our Parent & Scholar Handbook to learn about school policies, procedures and expectations.  Highlights will be shared during orientation and parent meetings.
  15. Our Back-to-School Night is planned for Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 6pm - 8pm.  This will be an opportunity for families to follow their scholar’s roster to meet our administrators and facilitators.  We hope to see you there!
