Dr. Julius Garvey to speak at Imhotep Institute Charter High School

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Imhotep Institute Charter High School  is extremely honored to host Dr. Julius Garvey, a history maker in his own rite, son of Marcus Garvey; national hero and Pan African visionary on  February 10, 2023 at 1pm at the school.

Dr. Garvey, a Human Rights Activist, retired cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, will discuss the importance of honoring and remembering his father’s life work, and philosophies; and his efforts to unite the African diaspora with the peoples of Africa;  the activism work of his mother, Amy Jacques Garvey,  and the social justice issues that are as relevant today as they were back in Marcus Garvey’s time. As part of the school's African Centered STEM mission the event emphasizes the importance of connecting  our scholars to  leaders in Culture and STEM.  Dr. Garvey will also share his career in medicine as a vascular surgeon.

His father, Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican-born Black nationalist, entrepreneur, and leader of the Pan-Africanism movement, which sought to unify and connect people of African descent worldwide. In the United States, he was a noted civil rights activist who founded the Negro World newspaper, the Black Star Shipping Line and was the founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, or UNIA,

According to Dr. Garvey, “The work of my father continues as we strengthen our resolve to educate our children, and now, more than ever, this is a sacred trust,”  In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Imhotep welcomes partnerships for our youth, that will lead to pathways to become local and global change makers through cultural connections, social justice, and STEM based project learning.  For more information on how to support our mission,  Email: [email protected] or visit our website at imhotephighschool.com.
