The Imhotep Institute Charter High School Village is saddened to share the passing of our beloved Grand Matriarch and Queen Mother, Mama Martha C. Young. She is the Mother of our Founder, Mama Dr. M. Christine Wiggins. Queen Mother Martha C. Young was a legendary educator who became the first Principal of Prince Hall, and a strong advocate for family engagement. Mom Marty, as she is affectionately known, was the inspiration for her daughter, Mama Dr. Chris whose kitchen table dream planning of Imhotep was developed. Mom Marty was instrumental in providing guidance, resources and so much more. She was a devoted donor and sponsor of many of the TEP initiatives. In 2013, the Imhotep family partnered with Councilwoman Cindy Bass to support the Prince Hall Alumni Association Annual Martha C. Young Scholarship Fund and a playground built to honor her legacy to the education of the students and families across this city and nation, Mom Marty has left a powerful legacy in her children who are educators and doctors and grandchildren who are following the high standards of academic excellence and service. Her impact touches the family lines of her students and parents like myself who benefitted from her workshops and parent professional developments. Mom Marty would always remind us, "it's Apparent We Need Parents." To this day, Imhotep stands on a strong foundation of family and community engagement. Mom Marty, we the board, families, staff and students pledge to honor your memory and service; we will hold our founder and your children, grand and great children in our hearts, and actions. We will dutifully and with great reverence lift up your name as an honored and beloved ancestor of the Mighty TEP and will pour libations to honor you and affirmations for your family and the thousands of lives you have touched,
