At Imhotep, The Naming Ceremony usually takes place in the 10th grade. Due to Covid 19, our10th grade students will partake in the Rites of Separation Ceremony that normally takes plade in 9th grade. There are several major rites of passages that happen in a person’s life. These are birth, coming of age, marriage, eldership and death. While all of these passages of life are important, it is the coming of age that is considered the most impactful on a person’s existence. This is the transitory stage that we help our student initiates complete. Each Rite of Passage Ceremony at Imhotep Charter School is developmentally designed to help usher our student initiates to a higher level and understanding of themselves, families, communities, nation and race.
